The Tamiya 1:35 RSO/01 kit is a newly developed model of the German tracked tractor Raupenschlepper Ost. It captures the vehicles built from the spring of 1943, that is, the form with the rounded pressed sheet metal cab. The finished model measures 126 mm long and 64 mm wide. The cargo bed can be built with the canvas stretched over it or with the bare frame only, and the tracks are link-and-length with the straight runs in one piece. A driver figure, decals for two marking options and pre-cut masks for the glazing and the window frames are included.
The Raupenschlepper Ost was created as an answer to the Eastern Front, where wheeled vehicles bogged down in mud and deep snow. It drew on Steyr truck engineering and was powered by an air-cooled gasoline V8 of roughly three and a half liters producing around seventy horsepower. Fast it was not, but it got where other vehicles could not. It towed anti-tank guns, carried ammunition and supplies and became one of the most widespread auxiliary vehicles of the German army.
Finish and paint the running gear and the cab before you close the vehicle up. Try to seat the tracks with a slight sag. Spray the base coat with an airbrush over a primer, and after the decals comes a wash into the recesses and drybrushing on the edges. On a vehicle that waded through mud all its life, pigments on the tracks and the underside of the bed are well worth the effort.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
