The needle, the nozzle and the seals on an airbrush are consumables, and you discover this at the moment the spray pattern stops behaving as expected. This section holds replacement needles and nozzles in the usual diameters, O-rings and seals, cups and their lids, hoses, quick couplers and thread adapters, plus holders, cleaning stations, water traps and filters.
All of it is minor compared with replacing a handpiece, which is the point: three common faults account for most of the airbrushes people give up on. The notes below cover what wears first and what is worth keeping in the drawer.
A handpiece has a handful of parts in contact with paint and with mechanical load. The needle blunts or bends, the nozzle gets damaged during careless cleaning, and the O-rings and seals harden under solvents. All three faults show up in the spray pattern, and all three are fixed by replacing a part rather than the whole tool.
The needle has to match the nozzle diameter, which is why they are bought as a pair or in the matching size. A bent tip shows itself by throwing the pattern to one side; hold it against the light and the deviation is visible. A damaged nozzle sprays off axis or spits. Replacement needles are often supplied in larger packs, which pays off if you spray regularly.
Seals keep air and paint where they belong. A hardened O-ring announces itself as air leaking from the body or paint weeping back towards the trigger, and swapping it is a matter of minutes. From cups, the lid is what usually goes missing, and without it a tilted handpiece empties itself onto the bench. Larger-capacity cups suit long sessions.
Handpieces and compressors use several different threads, so an adapter is often needed. A quick coupler speeds things up if you own more than one handpiece or change cups between colours. A longer hose gives freedom around a big model; a short one pulls the handpiece down less.
A holder parks the handpiece so the needle touches nothing. A cleaning station adds a reservoir that catches sprayed thinner and keeps the fumes down. Water traps and filters fit between compressor and hose and catch the moisture that would otherwise land on the model.
Buy consumables before you need them. A needle always bends in the middle of a half-finished coat, never between projects. The whole section sits under airbrush equipment.
