An injection-molded plastic kit from the Polish maker Arma Hobby, which has the Wildcat in 1:72 worked out across a whole series of versions. This box aims at the period before the United States entered the war, when American naval aviation flew in colors that nobody today would associate with a wartime aircraft.
The F4F-3 was the first production version of the carrier fighter, with a cantilever mid-wing and landing gear that retracted by hand into the sides of the fuselage. Until the end of 1941 American naval machines carried a polished aluminum fuselage, chrome yellow upper wing surfaces and the colorful squadron markings on the cowling and the tail. The yellow wing had a practical reason: it made it easier to find an aircraft that had been shot down or had made a forced landing. With the move to a wartime footing this finish disappeared and naval grays took its place.
Finish the cockpit and paint it before you glue the fuselage together, or you will no longer reach it. The parts are glued with liquid cement for plastic. Fit the glazing and mask it before spraying. Before the decals, go over the areas with a gloss coat; on a matte surface air would be trapped under a decal and the edge would turn white. Unify the finished paintwork with a matte varnish and only then add the chipping and the exhaust stains.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
