A photo-etched relief of the deck of an American aircraft carrier in the elevator area, 1:144 scale, from Brengun. A base surface to go under a model, not a kit of a ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
The manufacturer describes the product as a photo-etched relief of the deck of an American aircraft carrier, specifically at the place of the deck elevator. It is a base surface to go under a finished model in 1:144, not a model of a ship or an add-on for an aircraft. It differs from a general deck sheet precisely in that it contains a section with the elevator platform, that is the most striking interruption of the regular pattern of the deck.
Deck elevators moved machines between the hangar and the flight deck and were the busiest place on the whole ship. For a modeler it is an interesting slice, because the outline of the platform and its gaps break the surface up and the scene gains a story at once: an aircraft that has just come up, or a machine ready to be lowered. A general deck surface looks uniform, while a section with the elevator gives the scene a fixed point around which the model and the figures can be arranged.
Glue the sheet onto a flat base over its whole area, so that the outline of the platform does not buckle. The wooden covering comes out well with a light gray base and slight shading of the planks, and a darker gap will pick out the outline of the elevator. A dark wash runs into the gaps, a drybrush pulls the edges out and fine dusting and local oil smears complete the traces of service.
This is an addition to a scene. The aircraft model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
