A photo-etched relief of the flight deck of an American aircraft carrier in 1:144 scale from Brengun. A base surface to go under a model, not a kit of a ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
The manufacturer describes the product as a photo-etched relief of the deck of an American aircraft carrier of the Second World War period. It is not a model of a ship, nor an add-on for an aircraft: it is a surface on which a finished machine in 1:144 scale is set. A photo-etched sheet can capture the regular pattern of the deck surface, which is hard to produce on a smooth board. It comes from the Czech manufacturer Brengun.
The flight decks of American Second World War aircraft carriers had a wooden covering laid on a steel structure. Metal strips with fittings ran between the planks, and the machines were tied down to them so that neither a wave nor the slipstream of a taking-off aircraft would carry them away. This pattern, that is lengthwise gaps and regular rows of fittings, is typical of a deck and the eye recognizes it on a model at once. For a small scale it is a rewarding base: the scene looks like a slice of deck even without the rest of the ship.
Glue the sheet over its whole area onto a flat base, so that it does not lift anywhere. Wood is imitated by a light gray base rounded out by fine shading of the individual planks, and the tie-down strips then by a darker metal tone. A dark wash runs into the gaps, a drybrush pulls the edges out and local dusting completes the traces of service.
This is an addition to a scene. The aircraft model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
