A replacement ejection seat for the cockpit of a model of the Soviet fighter MiG-15. This is not a model of the aircraft but a single part produced by 3D printing, which replaces the seat from the box. The set is intended for the Eduard kit in 1:48, as the box states; Eduard is a Czech company from Obrnice near Most, so the kit and the accessory come from the same manufacturer.

The real subject

The MiG-15 was among the first Soviet production aircraft with an ejection seat and among the first with a swept wing and a pressurized cockpit. In an open cockpit the seat is the most conspicuous item, so a more accurate part shows on the model straight away. Watch the version: the later MiG-15bis differed from the early machines in its VK-1 engine and the manufacturer offers a separate seat set for it. According to the box this set is for the MiG-15, not for the bis. How the two seats differ the manufacturer does not state, so it is not stated here; compare the version with a photograph of the machine you are building.

Fitting and painting tips

First separate the part from the supporting props and level the contact surfaces; protect your breathing while sanding. The printed parts are joined by cyanoacrylate glue, glue for polystyrene will not join them. A primer is mandatory. The seat is best brought to life by setting the metal structure off from the padding and from the straps; the small markings and levers come out after light dark shading.
