Big Ed is at Eduard a bundle into which the manufacturer puts several of its separate sets for one specific kit; the usual content is photo-etched frets and masking stencils. The part number is BIG49483 and the manufacturer intended the bundle for the release of the MiG-17F in the form of the Lim-5 in East German service from Kinetic. It is not a model and not a kit. The sister bundle BIG49482 aims at the MiG-17F kit without this designation, so it is a different release. What the bundle contains specifically, check on the box.
The Lim-5 is the MiG-17F built under license in Poland; production was started by the WSK Mielec works in 1956 and the VK-1F engines were produced under license as the Lis-5. From the Soviet machines the Lim-5 differed above all in origin and in production details; by type it is a MiG-17F with an afterburning engine, in the NATO code Fresco-C. The East German air force operated the Lim-5 in larger numbers, so it is a well documented form of the machine.
Photo-etched parts are degreased before gluing, they are separated with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and the folds are more accurate in a bending tool than in the fingers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate or dispersion glue, not with glue for plastic. If the bundle contains color-printed parts, do not spray over them. Apply the masking stencils onto well cured varnish and lift them off in good time, so that the edge does not harden under them.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
