A set of eight anti-mine paravanes for German battleships and battlecruisers in 1:350 scale from Spalah. A resin accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for a model, not a ship kit: a set of anti-mine paravanes for the Bismarck, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Tirpitz in 1:350 scale. The box states eight pieces. The maker is the Ukrainian brand Spalah, which 3D-prints its parts from photopolymer resin and supplies them with print supports. Paravanes are small, intricate shapes, and it is with them that printing makes more sense than a plastic part, which is bound to simplify them.
A paravane is a towed device lowered from the sides of the bow on steel cables. Under way its vanes make it sheer out to the side, and the cable then cuts or deflects moored mines that would otherwise strike the hull. On warships the paravanes were stowed on deck or on the upper deck and are clearly visible in photographs, even though they were not in use under way.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts, cut the print supports away and sand the marks with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the paravanes separately and fit them only onto the painted deck. A dark wash will bring out the intricacy of the shape, a fine dry brush will lift the edges, and small metal fittings can be suggested with a dark metallic shade.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
