The injection-molded plastic kit 1:48 Macchi MC.202 Folgore from Italeri captures the Italian Second World War fighter with a liquid-cooled V engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic model of the Italian fighter from the manufacturer Italeri. The subject is the single-seat Macchi MC.202 Folgore, the best known fighter aircraft Italy deployed during the Second World War. The 1:48 scale is one of the most widespread aircraft sizes, so the finished piece fits in well among the other fighters in a display case.
The Folgore came about by reworking the earlier MC.200 Saetta. The radial engine was replaced by the liquid-cooled twelve-cylinder Daimler-Benz DB 601, an inverted V12 built in Italy under license by Alfa Romeo, and the aircraft gained a slender nose and a much better speed. Machines of this type flew over North Africa, Malta, the Mediterranean and on the Eastern Front. Pilots valued its agility and its behavior in a turn; their reservations concerned the weak gun armament.
A thin cement for plastic drawn into the seams by capillary action, a fine filler as a base and spraying with an airbrush all work well. The Italian mottled camouflage comes out best when the blotches are laid down with heavily thinned paint at low pressure and in several passes. A gloss intermediate coat helps under the decals, and once dry the surface is unified with a matte one.
The box holds unassembled plastic parts without paint. Paints, glue and the other supplies needed to finish it are not included, unless stated otherwise.
