One printed resin engine cowling in the late version for a Spitfire Mk.IX model in 1:48 scale from the Turkish brand Ginger Cat. The manufacturer designs its accessories in house and makes them by high-resolution resin printing. The box gives one piece. This is an accessory to a kit, not a model of the aircraft; the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was built over a long period and the panels of its engine cowling changed in the course of production. Late machines had different shaping and a different arrangement of fasteners and vents from the early batches, so a modeler building a particular aircraft from a photograph needs the matching version. Because the engine cowling is the dominant surface on a model right behind the propeller, the difference in shape is clearly visible even on a finished model.
First wash the printed resin parts in warm soapy water so that the print residue disappears from the surface and the paint will hold. Cut off the supports with a saw or a cutting disc, never with nippers, which will break the resin. The manufacturer recommends applying a base before painting. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy, as cement for plastic will not hold here. A dark wash into the recesses and a drybrush on the edges will draw out the detail. Wear a respirator while sanding.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
