Battle Set Leipzig 1813 is not a model of a single vehicle or a single figure but a whole diorama set for building a section of the battlefield in 1:72 scale. Into the box the manufacturer Italeri puts figures of French, Russian and Prussian infantry and cavalry, artillery, and elements of buildings — a stone wall and a town gate. The building elements are of fiberboard, the figures of injection-molded plastic. It is a new mold, not a repackaging of an older set.
The Battle of Leipzig, called the Battle of the Nations for the multinational composition of both sides, was fought from 16 to 19 October 1813. Napoleon stood here against the combined strength of Russia, Prussia, Austria and Sweden, and it was the largest battle of the whole Napoleonic wars and the largest European engagement before the First World War. The French retreat from Leipzig decided the end of French domination over the German lands and opened the way to the campaign of 1814.
Before painting, go over the fiberboard building parts with a filler primer or a water-thinnable acrylic base paint, so that the absorbent surface is evened out. Paint the figures on the sprue and cut them off only just before gluing them to the base — it saves a great deal of handling. The uniforms of the Napoleonic armies live on clean colors, so do not apply heavy washes to them; a darker shade in the folds and a dry brush on the edges is enough. Plan the scene from the wall and the gate, and only then place the soldiers.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
