The starter set Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Revell. Unlike an ordinary kit there is nothing here you have to buy on top: besides the injection-molded plastic kit the box holds a set of basic water-based paints, a tube of polystyrene cement, a brush, decals and instructions. The manufacturer recommends the set from the age of ten.
The Bf 109E, nicknamed Emil, was the version with which the German fighter force entered the war. Over the earlier machines it was given the more powerful DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection, which did not cut out under negative g, and on the E-3 version also a cannon in the wing supplemented by machine guns above the engine. It was Emil that met Spitfires and Hurricanes over France and over England in 1940, and the duel of these three types is among the most frequently covered subjects in modeling as a whole.
The paints in the starter set are water-based, so they are thinned with water or with a thinner for acrylic paints and the brushes are washed out with water after work. Dose the cement from the tube very sparingly; a trace is enough on plastic, and any surplus is squeezed into the seam and dulls the surface there. Glue the canopy last and never with polystyrene cement, so that it does not lose its transparency.
The set contains the kit, basic paints, glue and a brush, so it can be built with no further equipment. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
