The real subject

The MiG-21F-13 belongs to the early versions of this supersonic fighter. It is recognized by its delta wing, its slender fuselage with a nose intake and a circular centerbody cone, and by its turbojet engine. The early versions in particular have smooth, little-broken surfaces, so an inaccuracy in the masking shows on them more than on a busier airframe.

How to work with the masks

• The surface of the model must be smooth, clean and degreased before masking.
• Lay the stencil onto a dry coat of the previous color and never into fresh paint.
• Press the edges down all the way round, especially where the stencil crosses panel lines.
• Spray the paint in thin coats and direct it perpendicular to the edge of the stencil rather than under it.
• After spraying, take the stencil off before the paint hardens and pull it off sideways at an angle.
