The antenna fit for the Lockheed S-3A and S-3B Viking 1:48 refines the small external items of the carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft. The aircraft itself is not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
The anti-submarine Viking is literally studded with antennas, and they belong to its appearance as naturally as the high-set engine nacelles. It is precisely such small items that on a plastic part are either simplified or noticeably thicker than reality. What is offered here is a refining accessory; you will not find the machine itself in it.
The Viking entered service in the mid-1970s as a submarine hunter with a crew of pilot, copilot and two operators. Both the wing and the vertical tail folded because of the hangar below deck, and a magnetic anomaly detector extended from the tail. The modernized S-3B series received better electronics and the ability to carry anti-ship missiles; at the close of its career the type served mainly as a carrier-based tanker.
Fit the antennas right at the end of the build, otherwise you will break them off during handling. Paint them away from the fuselage if at all possible and attach them to the model already finished. The gray naval scheme calls for light emphasis of the panels, while on the antennas the surface is best left clean – unnecessary effects on them look artificial.
It is supplied without any finish and without the plastic kit. The other equipment needed to finish the model has to be obtained separately.
