A semi-rigid sanding stick of 800 grit, from DSPIAE. It follows curved surfaces yet will not wave a flat one; usable dry as well as wet.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sanding stick with a semi-rigid core, that is something between paper and a file. The core bends slightly, so the stick follows a curved surface, while at the same time it holds a shape firm enough not to wave a flat one. That is exactly the difference from a soft sponge, with which edges round themselves off of their own accord. The 800 grit stands for smoothing before varnish and for sanding between coats.
Eight hundred serves for smoothing the primer and for sanding between coats of paint. It takes off dust specks and the grain of the spray without cutting through to the plastic. It can also be used to level the edge of a small filled flaw. Guide the stick along the surface, not in circles, otherwise the scratches cross and are then visible under varnish. When working wet the surface clogs faster with water and dust, so rinse it from time to time. Do the sanding between coats only on a perfectly dry layer. Fresh paint smears under the stick and instead of a smooth finish you get a smudged patch.
For modelers who sand even where an ordinary sanding block is of no use, and for anyone who wants a complete range of grits to hand, from coarse leveling to preparation under a gloss varnish. The sanding stick is supplied on its own; neither a model nor paints are included.
