About product

DSPIAE PC-03GY plastic sheets, 0.3 mm thick

Three gray sheets of tough polystyrene 0.3 mm thick. The thinnest option in the range is used everywhere a thicker material would look coarse in the given scale: sheet metal cladding, covers, patches on a hull, interior lining, data plates, thin ribs and the strips of riveted bands.

The printed grid

A printed scale is on the surface, so measuring is done directly on the sheet and there is no need to put a ruler underneath. On the long narrow strips that are cut from thin material most often, that speeds the work up considerably.

How to work with the sheet

  • 0.3 mm can be cut through in one or two passes of the knife, but hold the ruler firmly.
  • At this gauge the material bends well even cold, so it will wrap a rounded hull too.
  • It is glued with ordinary liquid cement for plastic; use it sparingly, or a thin sheet will soften.
  • Take material off carefully when sanding; thin material shows through and sands through easily.

Who it is for

The sheet is for converters, diorama builders and modelers who imitate sheet metal covers and cladding. Polystyrene behaves just like the plastic of kits, so sanding, filling and painting go without surprises.

A thin sheet is most often glued onto a thicker base, so it pays to have both gauges to hand. The lower layer takes over the load-bearing job and this upper one only gives a convincingly thin sheet metal edge. Wipe the dust from sanding plastic up with a damp cloth; dry, it blows all over the room.

FAQ

Yes. 0.3 mm can be wrapped around a rounded hull cold, which thicker sheets will not allow.

For load-bearing parts it is. A thin sheet is meant for cladding and fillers; the part underneath is to take over the load-bearing job.

Sparingly. Liquid cement for plastic softens a thin sheet, and if it floods over, waves appear on the surface.

Three pieces, the same as with the other gauges in this range.
