The M923 is an American heavy all-wheel-drive truck intended to carry both cargo and troops. The version with an armored cab came about for driving in threatened areas: the crew is protected by an armored cab with angular outlines and smaller windows, so the vehicle differs from the ordinary version with a canvas roof at first glance. It is exactly that difference that makes the model a rewarding subject for a diorama as well, because a truck next to combat vehicles shows well what the everyday running of a convoy looked like.
The set comes as parts to be assembled and painted in 1:35 scale. The extent of the package and the recommended procedure are given in the instructions of the manufacturer. With a truck it pays to build and paint the chassis before you seat the bed and the cab on it: the frame, the gearbox and the axles are hard to get at afterwards, and yet that is exactly where most of the dust and mud sits on a finished model.
Fit the wheels permanently only after painting, because the tread is painted differently from the body and masking it on a finished model is a long job. Check the large flat parts of the bed dry against each other, because on surfaces like that even a small deviation shows. Build the dirt from the bottom upwards and let it dry between coats; most of it clings behind the wheels, on the lower edge of the fenders and in the places where the crew touches the vehicle.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and figures are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
