Two German insulated food containers in 1:35 scale with a photo-etched sheet. A piece of equipment that never stood alone at a field kitchen.
Responsibility details are not available.
The German army solved feeding the forward troops simply: the cooking was done to the rear and hot food was carried up in an insulated container worn on the back. A bulky double-walled cylinder with a clip closure kept the contents warm for as long as the trip to the position took. Soldiers took turns with this load and the container became an ordinary part of scenes where food is being served out.
The package holds two containers and one photo-etched sheet. The pair matches reality: one container would not hold food for a whole squad, so men went in pairs, or food and drink were carried separately. On a base they therefore look natural side by side, one standing and the other set down on its side. The photo-etched sheet supplies the clips, the strap fittings and the handles, that is, the parts that cannot be thin enough in a casting.
The surface of the container tends to be smooth, so every irregularity left by a pour lug will show on it; once cut off, sand the place with fine paper. In color a field gray-green tone holds good, but heavily worn, because the metal was rubbed against equipment and against the ground. Rust appears mainly around the closure and on the bottom.
Their natural setting is the rear area: the space beside a kitchen trailer, the bed of a truck, a trench before food is served out, or a pile of equipment stacked against a wall. If you place both containers together, give them different angles and different degrees of wear, otherwise they will look like two castings side by side instead of two pieces in use. The set can be combined with figures eating and with vehicles of supply units in the same scale.
