An injection-molded plastic model of the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen as she appeared in 1942, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. It is a new tooling; with the enclosed parts the hull can be built either as a full hull with a stand or in the waterline version. The box contains plastic sprues with finely engraved decks, clear shipboard floatplanes and decal sheets. The exact number of parts and marking options is given in the instructions in the box.
The Prinz Eugen was a heavy cruiser of the Admiral Hipper class of the German Kriegsmarine, carrying a main caliber of 203 mm in gun turrets. In May 1941 she escorted the battleship Bismarck on her only combat sortie into the Atlantic and then operated in Norwegian waters. Unlike many German surface ships she survived the war and was among the most important German cruisers of the period.
Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline version — the waterline form shows to advantage on a sea base, the full hull on the enclosed stand. Glue the small parts of the superstructure, the turrets and the masts with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Adding photo-etched railings and antennas will raise the realism (they are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise). Apply a primer, spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats and bring out the recesses and the decks with dark washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
