An injection-molded plastic kit of the British battlecruiser HMS Hood as she appeared in 1941, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the ship in the configuration she had at the time of her loss and is among the well regarded renditions of the Hood in this popular ship scale. According to the manufacturer the box contains decals and parts for building the full hull as well as the waterline version.
HMS Hood was a British battlecruiser, for two decades the largest and best known ship of the Royal Navy and a symbol of British sea power between the world wars. In May 1941 she met the German battleship Bismarck in the Denmark Strait. After a few salvos a hit reached her magazines, the ship exploded and sank within minutes. Only three men of the whole crew survived.
Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline form. Finish and paint the superstructure and the gun turrets before the final assembly, and attach the fine antennas and railings only at the end. Apply a primer and spray the paints with an airbrush; in this small scale a light emphasis of the panels and discreet weathering are the key. The model shows to advantage on the enclosed stand or in a diorama with a sea base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
