Finished collector's model of the American carrier fighter Grumman F11F-1 Tiger in 1:72 scale from Falcon Models. It captures a machine of squadron VF-21 from the aircraft carrier USS Ranger in 1957. The model is cast in metal with additional plastic parts, painted and marked, so there is nothing to build or glue. It has engraved panel lines, an opening canopy and lowered undercarriage. A stand for display in the flying position is included.
The F11F Tiger was the first supersonic carrier fighter of the US Navy. It was built with the so-called area rule, that is a waisted fuselage where the wing joins, which reduces drag around the speed of sound. It stayed in service only briefly, because it had a weak engine and a short range, but it became famous as the machine of a legendary flight demonstration team. It is also credited with the curious incident in which an aircraft on a gunnery test flew into the path of its own rounds.
A metal casting is heavier than a plastic model, so stand the display base on a firm surface. Wipe the surface with a soft dry cloth, as cleaning agents can damage the printed markings. Do not display the model in direct sunlight, as the paint and the lettering will fade. Handle the canopy carefully, as the hinge is the most stressed point of the model.
This is a finished painted model, not a kit. Neither glue nor paints are needed.
