The Lifecolor CT04 paint set for the color modulation of Soviet protective green 4BO. Graded tones of one base shade for modeling surfaces in three dimensions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation 4BO belongs to Soviet protective green, that is to the base finish in which the overwhelming majority of Soviet tracked and wheeled vehicles ran. On a model, though, a uniform green surface has an unrewarding quality: in a small scale it looks flat and the shape of the machine is lost in it. That is exactly why the CT04 set was created, put together as a modulation set, that is from graded tones of one base shade instead of several unrelated colors.
The procedure is simple to grasp and rewarding in its result. First the whole model is unified with the base tone. Lighter tones then go where the light would fall: on the upper surfaces of the turret and hull, on the center of large panels and on the edges. Darker tones, by contrast, go into the places the light does not reach, that is under fender overhangs, into recesses and at the lower edge of the sides. The transitions are sprayed diffusely and in thin coats, so that no hard edges arise between the tones. The difference between the lightest and the darkest tone looks exaggerated in the bottle, but on the finished model it evens out after a wash and a matte varnish.
For builders of Soviet vehicles who want the modulation palette together instead of mixing it by guesswork. Stir the bottle before work, the pigment settles at the bottom; follow the manufacturer's data for this range when thinning and cleaning the tools. The package holds paints. The model, thinner, varnish and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
