The ZTZ99B belongs to the current generation of Chinese main battle tanks and follows on from the well-known ZTZ-99 family. The model represents the rendition with add-on armor and with the GL6 active protection system. Add-on armor is fitted where the machine faces the greatest threat, while the active protection engages incoming rounds before they strike. The two together give the tank a considerably busier silhouette than the basic rendition has.
The item is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale and comes as a set of parts for assembly. The contents of the package and the building sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The small scale is a temptation to stand several machines of the same category side by side and compare how their protection is solved.
The add-on panels and the protection blocks make for a great many edges and gaps on the surface, which a brush can reach only with difficulty. It therefore pays to paint in sections and finish the assembly only afterwards. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down; wash the surface before painting and let it dry. Apply the paint in thin coats, otherwise the detail in the narrow gaps gets flooded.
The set is for modelers who follow present-day ground equipment and want machines in the collection from outside the usual Western range as well. Paints, glue and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
