The M1A2 Abrams is an American main battle tank with a 120 mm gun and a gas turbine drive, thanks to which it pulls away unusually smoothly and quietly. The SEP V2 designation belongs to an upgrade package aimed mainly at the electronics, the displays and the observation devices. Trophy is an active protection system: its blocks are carried on the sides of the turret and engage incoming anti-armor rounds before they strike the armor. It is precisely this combination that gives the tank a look you do not know from the earlier versions.
It is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, a size in which a collection of present-day vehicles fits even into a smaller display case. It comes as a set of parts for assembly; the contents of the package and the building sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions, as is the recommended order of the individual steps.
It is sensible to fit the active protection blocks and their mounts only after the turret has been painted, otherwise the recesses around them are hard to reach. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Large flat areas in a single color are not very forgiving, so apply the paint in thin coats and hold the surface up against the light before spraying, so that no sanding marks are left.
The set will please modelers of present-day ground equipment who want the Abrams in the form with active protection, and it also suits a group scene with further vehicles. Paints, glue and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
