A base coat intended to go under the mirror paint of the same make. It seals the texture of the plastic and forms a smooth film.
Responsibility details are not available.
With mirror finishes, most of the work is carried by the layer nobody ends up seeing. Scratches from sandpaper, fingerprints, dust and traces of the parting line do not disappear under gloss; on the contrary, the reflection emphasizes them and draws the eye to them. This base is therefore built to flow out into a continuous film and fill the fine texture of the plastic that an ordinary surfacer still leaves open.
First trim off the sprue gate remains and remove the mold edges and ejector pin marks. Then sand the surface with progressively finer grits and finally polish it until a sharp reflection appears in it. Degrease the part, get the dust off it and ideally hang it up so that nobody has to touch it during the work. Apply the base in thin passes and let it cure honestly. Work in a place free of drafts and flying dust, as every speck will show up in the finished reflection as a dark spot.
Rushed drying only reveals itself at the moment the top layer emphasizes every ripple. Sanding a finished base back no longer makes sense, as a broken film shows under the reflection as a milky patch. A test on an offcut from the same kit pays off, because individual kinds of plastic take the coat differently. And reckon with the fact that the mirror layer itself is a separate item, so without it the polished surface will go unused. Let the solvent flash off between passes, otherwise it gets sealed under the next coat and the area shrinks afterwards.
