The set from the British brand PERRY Miniatures holds thirty-eight multi-part figures of hard plastic, seventeen flags, bases for the units and an information sheet. Each figure is made up of a torso, separately inserted arms and a head, so the poses and the weapons can be combined within the set and two identical figures will not arise in one formation.

The real subject

The second half of the 15th century is the height of plate armor. The knight of that time no longer fights in the saddle alone: he dismounts and goes in on foot in a closed formation, because against crossbows, handguns and stakes a horse is more of a target. That is where the weapons of the set come from as well, that is, polearms, war hammers and swords wielded in one hand and in both. Men-at-arms equipped in this way were put into the field by England, France, Burgundy, the Italian states, the Holy Roman Empire and the Scandinavian countries.

Building and painting tips

The parts are of hard polystyrene, so they glue with ordinary liquid cement for plastic. Assemble the figures on their bases first and spray them with primer only after that, preferably a dark one, because that creates the shadow in the folds straight away. Lay the areas of color on thinly and lighten them gradually on the raised places. A dark wash and a matte varnish unify the finished paintwork, and the varnish also protects the figure during play and carrying.
