The Republic XP-72 with a four-blade propeller in 1:48 scale from A&A Models. A kit of the American experimental fighter of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of the American experimental fighter Republic XP-72 in the version with a four-blade propeller, that is as the first of the prototypes built looked. It is a subject that turns up only rarely: the type stayed at the testing stage and never reached production, yet it is among the most interesting piston machines of the end of the war. The manufacturer also offers a variant with contra-rotating propellers, as fitted to the second prototype, so a modeler can choose which of the two machines to build.
The XP-72 was created as the performance peak of the development line that the Thunderbolt also comes from. It was powered by an air-cooled four-row twenty-eight-cylinder radial, one of the largest piston aero engines ever built in series. The first prototype flew in February 1944 with a four-blade propeller. The machine had exceptional rate of climb and speed, but jet engines had arrived in the meantime and the program ended.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the wheel bays before you close the fuselage. Try the large radial engine behind the cowling dry first; on aircraft of this class the parts tend to sit tightly. A bare metal surface calls for a perfectly smooth base, because every scratch is emphasized under metallic paint. Divide the panels with masking and alternate the metal shades; a uniform surface looks artificial.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
