Printed wheels for the Spitfire with IJ12 pattern tires in 1:72 scale, in the form from 1938 to 1940. A replacement for the plastic wheels, with no parting line.

A set of printed main landing gear wheels for the early Spitfires in 1:72 scale from the maker IBG. It matches the form used from 1938 to 1940, that is, in the period before the Battle of Britain and during it. This is not an airplane kit but a replacement part: printing from resin gives the tire a clean tread pattern with no parting line and the hub a sharp detail.
On an aircraft model a wheel is one of the few parts everybody looks at. A plastic molding has its parting line exactly across the tread, and cleaning it up without damaging the pattern is almost impossible in a small scale. On the early Spitfires the form of the tire matters as well, because the pattern changed during production and different types belong to different periods.
Separate the parts from the print supports with a sharp knife, smooth the pads and wash them in lukewarm water with dish soap before painting. They are glued with super glue. A tire suits a dark gray shade rather than pure black, and a hub takes a metallic tone with a fine dark wash. Light dust on the lower part of the wheel will give the model contact with the ground.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
