About product

Wheels for the Sd.Kfz. 250/3 in 1:16 scale

A set of weighted wheels for the German Sd.Kfz. 250 light half-track carrier in its signals form, 1:16 scale, the maker DEF Model. This is not a vehicle kit but a replacement part. A flattened contact patch gives the chassis the weight that a perfectly round plastic wheel never has. The manufacturer has designated the set for the Das Werk kit.

The real subject

The Sd.Kfz. 250 was a light half-track carrier used for reconnaissance, for liaison and as a command vehicle. The form designated 250/3 carried a radio set and, with its conspicuous antennas, turned up where a commander needed to stay on the move and keep communications at the same time. One such vehicle became famous in North Africa as the command vehicle of the German commander of the forces there, and that is exactly why it is among the well-known modeling subjects.

Usage tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry out; they are glued with super glue. Seat the wheel with the flattened part pointing exactly downward, otherwise the vehicle will look tilted. Paint the tire dark gray rather than pure black and let a dark wash run into the pattern. A desert scene suits light dust applied only along the sides of the wheel.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German vehicles in the large 1:16 scale
  • Modelers who want a loaded chassis
  • Display-case models judged from close up
  • More experienced builders used to working with resin

The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The Das Werk kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
