A set of front weighted wheels for the German Sd.Kfz. 9 heavy half-track tractor, known by the maker's short name Famo, 1:35 scale, the maker DEF Model. This is not a vehicle kit but a replacement part. A flattened contact patch is particularly in order on a machine this heavy, because it is exactly here that a perfectly round wheel would look unnatural. The manufacturer has designated the set for the Tamiya and Trumpeter kits.
The Sd.Kfz. 9 was the largest German half-track tractor of the Second World War. It was used for recovering and evacuating damaged tanks, for towing heavy trailers and in the later years as the chassis for an anti-aircraft gun. Pulling out a disabled tank often needed several of these machines coupled together, which says everything essential about the weight of the real subject. The front axle carried wheels with massive tires that bedded down visibly under load.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry out; they are glued with super glue. Seat the wheel with the flattened part pointing exactly downward. A tire suits a dark gray shade, and let a dark wash run into the tread pattern. Dried mud on the sides of the wheel will give the tractor the setting it worked in.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The Tamiya and Trumpeter kits, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
