Masking plugs for the wheel bays of the Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 model in 1:48 scale, cut for the Airfix kit. Foam shapes that fill the deep recesses in the wing and fuselage before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is neither a kit nor a photo-etched detail but an aid for painting. The wheel bays are deep recesses that paint finds its way into during spraying even when the outside is otherwise well masked. Stuffing them with crumpled tissue is slow and the result tends to be uneven. These plugs have the shape of the bay in question, slide inside and fill it exactly up to the edge.
Press the plug into the bay so that it is flush with the surrounding surface, but do not force it any deeper than it seats by itself. After spraying it is pulled out with tweezers. Because the material is pliable it will take repeated use, as long as too thick a layer of paint does not build up on it. The set is cut for the Airfix kit; with another maker's version of the same aircraft the shape of the bay differs and the plugs need not seat.
The Hawker Sea Fury was the last piston-engined fighter of the Fleet Air Arm and among the highest-performing of all. The FB.11 version was a fighter-bomber, carried pylons for bombs and rockets and became famous for its service in the Korean War, where it was credited with victories even over jet opponents. After withdrawal from service the aircraft found a new role in air racing.
The package holds only the plugs. The Airfix kit and paints are not included.
