FuG 16ZY Peilantenne in 1:72 scale from Brengun is a 3D-printed direction-finding loop antenna for German fighters. An add-on for a finished model, not a kit of an aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
An add-on for builders of German fighters in the smallest of the classic aircraft scales. The manufacturer describes it as a 3D-printed antenna for German aircraft. It is therefore not a model of an aircraft but a single small part that is glued onto a finished machine. It is precisely in 1:72 that 3D printing has the greatest advantage: it manages a thin loop that would have to be simplified in plastic.
The FuG 16ZY was a high-frequency radio set of the Luftwaffe in the later part of the war, and the abbreviation ZY marked the direction-finding function. A ground station guided the formation onto the target by the transmitted signal. Part of the equipment was a direction-finding loop antenna on the underside of the fuselage, carried by late Messerschmitt Bf 109s and Focke-Wulf Fw 190s but by other types as well. On a model it is a small thing that tells a late machine from an earlier one.
In this scale the part is exceptionally delicate. Work over a light surface, separate it with a sharp cut and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue applied on a pin. Fit the loop at the end of the build, after varnishing and the decals, and avoid running masking tape across it.
This is an add-on for a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
