A set of paravanes for large ship models in 1:200 scale. This is not a kit of a ship, but a separate resin accessory of deck equipment. The manufacturer states eight pieces and intends the set for the battleships Bismarck, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Tirpitz. The supplier spells the name of the first ship listed with an error; correctly it is Bismarck. Spalah is a Ukrainian brand and 3D prints its parts from photopolymer resin.
A paravane is a torpedo-shaped towed body, which a ship streams from a fitting at the forward end of the keel, one to each side. Vanes push it out to the side under the pressure of the water, so the towing cable stays taut and forms an oblique wedge ahead of the ship. If the cable meets the mooring of a moored mine, it cuts the mooring through and the mine floats up to the surface, where it can be destroyed by gunfire. If the mooring does not give, the mine reaches the paravane and explodes at a safe distance from the hull. The device came about in the years 1914 to 1916 and was used in the Second World War as well.
Wash the parts free of resin residue and cut off the print supports, protecting your breathing while sanding. Resin is joined with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), cement for plastic will not bond it, and a primer coat is mandatory. Paravanes were stowed on deck in racks, so do not place them merely by eye and compare the arrangement with a photograph of the ship and the period you are building.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
