An injection-molded plastic kit of the American halftrack armored vehicle in 1:35 scale. According to the manufacturer this is a two-in-one set: it is possible to build the M2A1 with a winch at the front and the M49 ring mount above the position of the second driver, or the older M2 with a skate rail for a machine gun around the fighting compartment and with a roller at the front. There are therefore two sets of rear panels in the package, with and without the brackets for the rail. Check the extent of the package on the packaging.
The M2 halftrack vehicle came about as an artillery tractor and reconnaissance vehicle: it carried the crew of a howitzer and ammunition, and its crew compartment had room for ten people. The M2A1 version differed from the M2 in that it replaced the skate rail for machine guns with the M49 ring mount above the position of the second driver, from which it was possible to fire forward. Over 1200 vehicles were modified or built in this way. The longer M3 type with rear doors and room for thirteen people was intended for carrying infantry instead, so the M2 and the M3 complemented each other in units and did not serve the same purpose.
Decide right at the start which version you are building; the rear panels and the armament differ accordingly and it is difficult to change afterward. Paint the interior of the fighting compartment before fitting the side panels, because it will stay visible. Let the tracks settle under their own weight on a finished running gear. The olive color is enlivened by lighter oversprays of the surfaces, dust on the fenders and a dark wash into the riveted seams.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
