An injection-molded plastic kit of the German heavy tank Tiger II in 1:35 scale, in the version with the earlier turret, which is traditionally called the Porsche one. The mold is from 2016, according to the manufacturer this is a two-in-one set, and the parts carry a cast coating of the protective paste Zimmerit. The markings belong to machines of the 503rd heavy tank battalion. The manufacturer also keeps the version with the production turret, traditionally the Henschel one, and with the markings of the 505th battalion; compare the turret versions on the packaging.
You will recognize the earlier turret of the Tiger II by its rounded front with a protruding gun mantlet. It was the first turret fitted in production and only about fifty machines received it; the naming after Porsche is traditional, but it was designed by the Krupp company for the competing Porsche chassis. The rounded front had one distinct disadvantage: the lower part of the surface deflected hits downward against the hull roof. The later production turret therefore received a flat front. The armament remained the 8.8 cm KwK 43 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, the propulsion the Maybach HL 230 P30 spark-ignition V-twelve, whose power was not enough for the weight of the machine.
You can easily erase the cast Zimmerit when sanding the joints, so run the abrasive over the parts only where the texture is absent. Fit the rounded gun mantlet dry and check whether the barrel stands on the axis. Finish the running gear and the tracks before the fenders. Complement the yellow base color with stripes and enliven the surfaces with a dark wash; build up dust and mud from the bottom upward.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
