A set of masking tapes for the DFS-230 glider kits from RS Models - it is not a model, but an aid for painting. This set has no level in its designation and comes out as the only one for this subject: according to the manufacturer it covers all the windows including the inner side of the cargo compartment, and the wheels. On a glider with a large glazed area that is precisely the most laborious part of painting, so the set deals with the whole glazing at once, inside and out.
The DFS 230 was a German assault glider from the second half of the 1930s, designed at the German research institute for gliding under the direction of Hans Jacobs. It carried a pilot and nine soldiers, or a corresponding load, and a powered aircraft, most often a Junkers Ju 52, towed it to the objective. It glided steeply onto the target and shortened its landing run with a braking parachute, so it fitted even onto a small area. It was first used in this way on 10 May 1940 at the Belgian fortress of Eben-Emael, and in 1943 it was landed in the mountainous terrain of the Gran Sasso.
The masks are cut from yellow kabuki masking tape. Degrease the part before applying them and press the mask down around its whole edge so that paint does not creep under the rim. Spray in thin coats; a heavy coat likes to peel when the mask comes off. Remove the mask while the paint is still fresh and pull it away at an angle. Cover the areas the set does not reach with tape or with liquid mask.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
