MINI GT is a brand of 1:64 collector models from TrueScale Miniatures (TSM), based in Hong Kong; the body is metal and plastic parts complete it. The model captures a Range Rover from the Camel Trophy endurance event, specifically the winning car of the 1981 edition in Indonesian Sumatra. Nothing is glued or painted; the model is simply unpacked and stood in a display case.
The Camel Trophy was an off-road endurance event in which crews crossed tropical terrain in modified Land Rover vehicles. The 1981 edition was run in Sumatra and was won by the West German crew of Christian Swoboda and Knuth Mentel. The competition was run in two-door Range Rovers with an eight-cylinder engine, prepared for the event by the Special Vehicle Operations department. For the collector this edition is interesting precisely because it was still run with Range Rovers: later editions moved to other models of the brand, so the pairing of the Range Rover and the Camel Trophy belongs to the early era of the event.
