This is a scenic set of doors, windows, shutters and decorative architectural elements in the Eastern European style, in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit of equipment - these are building elements for buildings in a diorama. The manufacturer gives several variants of doors, windows with shutters and decorative elements and adds that they suit both building your own buildings from scratch and modifying finished structures. The parts are 3D printed and are supplied unpainted.

The real subject

Doors and windows decide whether a building in a scene reads as a particular place or as a generic box. Traditional rural and town buildings of Eastern Europe are recognized precisely by their openings: wooden shutters, carved frames and trim around the apertures. The manufacturer therefore put several variants into the set, so that the same opening does not repeat on one building. In 1:72 an opening in a wall is moreover the first thing the eye registers in a display case.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut the printing supports off carefully, as the frames and trim are thin. Protect your airways when sanding. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue and apply a primer coat. Do the wood by layering: a brown base, a lighter dry brush along the grain and a darker wash run into the gaps. Worn paint on the shutters and a darker deposit at the threshold will give the structure age. A drop of gloss varnish will suggest glass, and a matte window should be darkened from the inside.
