A finished metal collector's item, assembled and painted, from the Wings of Heroes range, the Century Wings part number 778979, a limited edition of 1500 pieces. The model is unpacked and stood in a display case - no modeling work awaits it. Watch the distinction within the range: this piece is the A-6E, that is, the attack bomber. The sister piece of the same range is the KA-6D, and that is a tanker with its bombing equipment removed - a factually different aircraft, not a different color scheme. Check the finish and the extent of the package on the box.
The A-6 Intruder was a two-seat carrier-borne attack bomber of the US Navy, built to hit a target at night and in bad weather, when other machines did not take off. The crew sits side by side rather than in tandem, and the fuselage is stubby and bulky on that account. The E version was the last and most elaborate attack form of the type: it received an upgraded radar and targeting system. The VA-115 Eagles squadron belonged to the fifth carrier air wing, from which the letter code NF comes, and was permanently forward-deployed in Japan. During 1996 the squadron left the Intruders and moved to the F/A-18C strike fighter.
On a metal model in 1:72 what decides is the cleanliness of the printing of the fuselage codes and squadron insignia, the seating of the landing gear and the stores and the smoothness of the joint between the wing and the fuselage. The model is intended for display, it is not a toy. A limited edition of 1500 pieces means that buying another later may not be possible.
