The KA-6D Tanker Intruder, VA-35 Black Panthers, AJ520 is a finished painted metal model of the tanker aircraft in 1:72 scale, not a kit and not a bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finished metal collector's item, assembled and painted, from the Wings of Heroes range, the Century Wings part number 588196, a limited edition of 2000 pieces. The model is unpacked and stood in a display case - no modeling work awaits it. The distinction here is factual, not one of color: this piece is the KA-6D, that is, the tanker aircraft. The sister piece of the same range is the A-6E, the attack bomber. It is not the same aircraft in a different color scheme, but a different task and different equipment.
The KA-6D was the tanker conversion of the Intruder. The radar and bombing equipment were removed from it and their place was taken by an internal hose reel with a housing under the rear fuselage; in addition a refueling pod could be hung on the fuselage station. The second crew member ceased to be a bombardier-navigator and looked after navigation and the supervision of refueling. The KA-6D was therefore not a combat machine, and its color scheme stayed more conspicuous than on the attack versions, which moved to low-visibility gray schemes. The VA-35 Black Panthers squadron used both forms of the Intruder side by side, the attack one and the tanker.
On a metal model in 1:72 what decides is the cleanliness of the printing of the fuselage codes and squadron insignia, the seating of the landing gear and the smoothness of the joint between the wing and the fuselage. On the tanker version look in addition at the housing of the hose reel under the rear fuselage - it is its recognition mark. The model is intended for display, it is not a toy.
This is a finished model, not a kit. Check the workmanship, the assembly, the painting and the extent of the package on the box.
