A plastic kit of the production Imperial fighter craft TIE from the Star Wars film saga in 1:110 scale. The manufacturer is the German company Revell. It is a Model Set edition, so besides the sprues with the parts, the decal sheet and the instructions the package also holds basic paints, a brush and glue; the kind of paints is stated on the box. There are few parts and they are large, so the model can be built in one evening and it suits a first kit as well.
The TIE Fighter is the production fighter craft of the Empire and in the films it appears in swarms. It is made up of a spherical cockpit with a single pilot and two flat hexagonal panels at the sides, which gave it its characteristic silhouette and its piercing sound. The craft were built to be cheap and easy to replace: they have neither shields nor a hyperdrive, so they lean on capital ships. Their very number and their simplicity are what made them the symbol of Imperial superiority in numbers.
Glue both side panels on symmetrically and check them head-on before the glue cures — on a small model every deviation hits the eye. The base finish is light gray, the glazing of the cockpit dark and glossy. The flat panels come to life with a fine differentiation of shades by field and with a dark wash run into the grooves. Put the decals on dried paint and press them down with a damp brush. Choose the thinner according to the kind of paints stated on the box.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. With the Model Set edition the basic paints, a brush and glue are, according to the manufacturer, part of the package; other accessories are not.
