1:1200 German Battleship Bismarck - Starter Kit

1:1200 Bismarck – a Starter Kit from Revell

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German battleship Bismarck in the small 1:1200 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The Starter Kit edition is a complete starter package: according to the manufacturer, basic shades of water-thinnable acrylic paints, a brush, cement for plastic, decals and an instruction sheet are added to the parts. The finished model fits into an ordinary display case and will complement the other ships that Revell offers in this scale.

The real subject

The Bismarck entered service in 1940 as the largest and most powerful warship Germany ever built. She carried eight 38 cm guns in four twin turrets and measured over two hundred fifty meters. On her only combat sortie in May 1941 she sank the British battlecruiser Hood in the Denmark Strait, but she herself took a hit that damaged her fuel tanks. After a pursuit lasting several days the British forces put her out of action on 27 May 1941 and the ship sank. Her short and dramatic story made her the best known German battleship.

Building and painting tips

Sand the hull at the longitudinal joint so that it does not show. Spray a filler primer and paint in horizontal bands. The Bismarck carried a conspicuous camouflage scheme with stripes, which is best applied with masking tape or a fine brush onto a smooth and completely dry base. Paint the gun turrets and the superstructures separately and cement them on only at the end; the finished model will come out well on a base representing the surface of the water.

Who the model is for

• Collectors of ships in the small 1:1200 scale
• Anyone interested in the naval history of the Second World War
• Modelers who want the paints and the cement together
• As a gift for followers of warships

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The basic paints, the brush and the cement are part of this package according to the manufacturer, other accessories are not, unless stated otherwise.
