A plastic kit of the special version of the Imperial TIE fighter craft that Darth Vader pilots in the Star Wars film saga, in 1:121 scale. The manufacturer is the German company Revell and it is a Model Set edition: besides the sprues with the parts, the decal sheet and the instructions the package also holds a basic set of paints, a brush and glue. The kind of paints is stated on the box. The set has about two dozen parts, so it is finished quickly.
Vader's craft can be told from the ordinary Imperial fighters at first glance: instead of straight flat panels it carries bent wings in the shape of an opened V, and the spherical cockpit also has dark glazing. Unlike the production machines it is a piece modified for a single pilot, and in the stories it is linked above all with the battle over the first Death Star. That shape is exactly why it belongs among the most popular models of the whole subject.
Glue both wing panels on symmetrically — on a small model every deviation shows at once, so check them head-on before the glue cures. The base finish is gray; set the glazing of the cockpit apart with a dark glossy shade and the small details of the cannons with black. A dark wash run into the grooves of the panels gives depth to a flat plate. Put the decals on only once the paint has dried. Choose the thinner according to the kind of paints stated on the box.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. With the Model Set edition the basic paints, a brush and glue are, according to the manufacturer, part of the package; other accessories are not.
