An injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:144 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The Model Set version adds the basic paints, a brush and glue to the model. The small scale means fewer parts and a quicker build than the same machine in 1:72 or 1:48.
The F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine, two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing that swept back in flight. It was created for the long-range defense of the American carriers, and together with a powerful radar and long-range air-to-air missiles it was to cover the ships far beyond their own horizon. The A version was the first production version and carried the original engines, which were among its weakest points. In service with the US Navy the type lasted until 2006.
In 1:144 the parts are small, so cut them off with a fine saw and apply the glue drop by drop with a fine brush. The wing is usually cemented in one chosen position, so decide in advance whether you want the model spread or swept. Even out the gray finish with a base color, bring out the panel lines with a fine wash and place the decals with tweezers into an intermediate gloss clear coat. Leave the matte coat to the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. According to the manufacturer, the Model Set contains the basic paints, a brush and glue; other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
