The Aviaeology decal sheet AOD24S07 in 1:24 scale carries technical and maintenance stencils for the airframe of the Hawker Hurricane in the variants for night fighter colors. It is the second part of the range, not a set of national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet from the Airframe Stencil Data range: the contents are technical and maintenance stencils for the Hawker Hurricane, and this is the second part of the range, aimed at night fighter machines. There are no roundels, squadron codes or serial numbers on the sheet. The point of a separate part lies in the color: some of the stencils were printed in different shades on night colors than on day ones, because on a dark background the usual markings would not be visible. Day colors are covered by the first part of the range, which is a separate item. So anyone building a daylight Hurricane does not need this sheet.
Besides daylight defense the Hurricane also served in the night fighter role. Squadrons with it guarded the British sky during the period of the night raids and also made incursions over the occupied continent. For that the machines were given dark, often all-black colors, and it is with those that the legibility of small markings changes. Maintenance stencils are the lettering at filler necks, access panels and places where one must not step — that is, things the ground crew had to read even in poor light.
Decals are not stuck down with modeling cement. They are applied onto a dried gloss coat, settled with water and a decal fixer, and on broken surfaces with a decal softener, so that the film follows the rivets and panel lines. Cut the individual markings close to the artwork. On black colors a gloss coat under the decal is a necessity, otherwise the edge of the film will stay visible; apply the stencils after the national insignia.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
