A set of two printed resin BETAB-500ShP concrete-piercing bombs in 1:32 scale from the Russian brand Quinta Studio. The manufacturer offers it as a universal accessory for any kit. The box gives the count of two bombs. In the large 1:32 scale the shape of the warhead and of the stabilizer are clearly visible on a bomb of this size. This is an accessory of underwing stores, not a kit of an aircraft.

The real subject

BETAB is the Soviet designation for a concrete-piercing aerial bomb. The weapon has a solid warhead that first penetrates the concrete layer, and the explosive filling bursts only beneath it, so the effect goes into the structure and not into the air. Typical targets were runways and taxiways, aircraft shelters and fortified structures. The version with letters at the end of the designation is adapted for release from low altitude, where the bomb is slowed after release.

Usage tips

Bombs are painted off the model and fitted only at the end. After washing off the print resin residue, apply a thin base, then the main shade and finally a dark wash, which will draw out the seams and bolts. Do the lettering and the color bands on the body of the bomb with masking tape or a fine brush, not freehand. Under the pylons we recommend only fitting the bombs dry and checking whether they clash with the landing gear and the flaps, and gluing them only then. Do not glue printed resin with cement for plastic; it will not hold.
