This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from ICM captures the German half-track truck Sd.Kfz.3b (Maultier) with a 2 cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun on the load bed. Besides the vehicle itself, the Achtung! Sie fliegen! edition also contains crew figures, so that a complete scene of the gun crew at work can be built. Decals with markings are included.
The Sd.Kfz.3b came about as a half-track conversion of the German V3000S truck (the Maultier type, meaning mule), in which the rear driven axle was replaced by a tracked running gear for better going across country. A 20 mm 2 cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun was mounted on the load bed; for firing, the side panels were folded down or removed so that the crew had a clear field of traverse. The vehicle served for anti-aircraft defense as well as for fire support against ground targets during the Second World War.
First finish the chassis, the track run and the cab interior before you close up the body. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement. The 2 cm Flak 38 gun with its fine mount and shield deserves careful assembly. After a primer coat, spray with an airbrush; washes will bring out the folds of the canvas and the rivets, and pigments and dry pastels will add dust and mud on the tracks and the underside. The figures benefit from painting with shades and glazes for a lively look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
