A factory ruin with a steam boiler in 1:35 scale is an extensive assembly in plaster, resin and photo-etch that will carry even a large diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
One of the largest ruins that Royal Model has put into its diorama range. The plaster masonry is complemented by resin castings of machinery and by photo-etched metal elements, so the result is not merely a piece of wall but a fitted-out interior of a workshop, complete with a boiler.
Until the middle of the twentieth century a steam engine powered most factories. A boiler in an annex burned coal, the steam flowed to the engine and from there the motion was distributed around the hall by a system of shafts and pulleys to every machine tool. When artillery or an air raid hit such a works, it left behind a characteristic mixture: a broken roof, twisted girders and in the middle of it the cylinder of the boiler, on which the damage barely showed. Scenes like these are familiar to everyone who follows the fighting for Stalingrad, for the Italian towns or for the German industrial areas in 1945.
Put a large structure together dry first and note down the order of the parts, because once it is glued you will barely reach inside. Paint the interior spaces therefore before you close the assembly up. The plaster has to be sealed with a primer, the metal degreased, and the boiler brought to rust by layering pigments. Handle the light in the hall with darker corners and lighter areas beneath the openings in the roof.
The object arrives as a raw casting, without paints and without glue.
