A model of a feeding device for farm animals in 1:35 scale, that is, the wooden trough with a rack above it into which hay is loaded and which cattle reach into with their heads between the bars. It is an accessory for a scene, not a vehicle kit: it belongs in a farmyard, in a barn, beside a paddock or at an abandoned farm that a military column happens to be moving through.
Feeding troughs and racks were part of the basic equipment of every farm and their form has hardly changed for centuries, which is an advantage for a diorama builder: an element like this can be used in a nineteenth-century scene as readily as in one from the middle of the twentieth. In wartime dioramas it plays an important part, because it shows that the battlefield had previously been an ordinary place where somebody farmed.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that traces of mold release agent disappear from the surface. Cut off the casting blocks and level the surfaces; sand with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate. Wood comes out best when you lay thin irregular streaks of a lighter and a darker color over the base tone along the grain and then unify the whole with a dark seeping coat that runs into the joints. Leave the lower parts dirtied and add hay from crushed static material.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and it is an accessory, not a kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
