An injection-molded plastic kit of the German VK 16.02 Leopard reconnaissance tank in 1:35 scale. According to the manufacturer the box also holds photo-etched parts and tracks made of individual links. It is a project machine, so the model shows a shape based on wartime documentation rather than on a surviving example.
The VK 16.02 Leopard was to be a German reconnaissance tank of a new generation, fast, well armored and armed with the 50 mm KwK 39 L/60 gun with a coaxial MG 42 machine gun. The shape of its sloped armor resembled a scaled-down Panther. Series production was planned for 1943, but in January of that year the project ended: the machine no longer met the requirements the army was setting for 1944, and the first prototype was not completed. The turret developed for the Leopard was not wasted, however, and was used on the Sd.Kfz. 234 Puma armored car.
Paint the running gear and the interior before closing the hull. Assemble the individual track links in runs and shape them on the wheels so that they have a natural sag. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Because the machine was never in service, the camouflage is the builder choice. German dark yellow with stripes or an overall gray follow logically; apply them with an airbrush over a primer coat, then a wash in the recesses and dust pigments in the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
